Key specs explained for this grate
Size: 18"-SS
This designation confirms the grate is 18 inches wide and made of stainless steel. You get a standard cooking width that fits large kamado cookers. The stainless steel material ensures the surface resists rust and corrosion during outdoor use. This is a practical choice for maintaining a clean cooking area without frequent deep cleaning. It matches the original equipment manufacturer size for many popular grill models.
Width: 19 inches
The overall width measures 19 inches, providing a generous surface area for your food. You can place multiple items side by side for family meals or larger gatherings. This dimension allows for better heat distribution across the cooking surface. It is slightly wider than the 18-inch nominal size, ensuring a secure fit within your grill's interior. Check your grill's internal dimensions to ensure this width does not interfere with the lid or side walls.
Height: 3 inches
The grate sits 3 inches above the base of the cooking chamber. This height creates adequate space for charcoal or wood briquettes below. You benefit from proper airflow and heat circulation, which is essential for consistent cooking temperatures. This clearance prevents food from burning directly on the fuel source. It also allows for easier ash removal after cooking. Verify that this height works with your specific grill model's internal structure.
Length: 19 inches
The length also measures 19 inches, creating a square cooking footprint. You gain ample room for large cuts of meat or multiple pizzas. This dimension complements the width to maximize your usable cooking space. It is designed to fit squarely inside large kamado-style grills. Ensure your grill interior is at least 19 inches deep to accommodate this length. This size supports versatile cooking methods, from direct grilling to indirect roasting.
Design and build details
The grate is constructed from stainless steel, which the listing describes as durable and rust-resistant. This material choice suggests you can leave it outdoors with less worry about corrosion compared to coated alternatives. It also means cleaning is straightforward, as stainless steel typically handles scrubbing and heat well without degrading.
According to the listing, the physical dimensions are 19 inches wide and 19 inches long. The height is listed as 3 inches, though a 5-inch variation is available. These measurements define the footprint on your cooking surface. You must verify that your cooker interior matches this 19-inch span. The 18-inch designation in the product name refers to the grate width, not the overall external footprint.
The finish is silver, consistent with the stainless steel material. The layout is a single grate unit. This design fits large kamado-style cookers like the Big Green Egg Large or Kamado Joe Classic models. The simple rectangular shape ensures it sits flat on the support grid. There are no complex controls or adjustable components. You install it as a fixed surface. This build prioritizes direct heat transfer and easy maintenance over adjustable features.
Setup and everyday use
Installation is straightforward because this is a drop-in replacement part. You simply remove the old grate and place the BBQration unit into your large kamado cooker. The listing confirms compatibility with Big Green Egg Large, Kamado Joe Classic models, and Vision Grill systems. Before installing, verify that your grill matches the 19-inch width and 19-inch length dimensions. The 3-inch height variant fits most standard setups, but check your specific model if you prefer the 5-inch option. Daily use involves placing food directly on the stainless steel bars. The material resists rust, which simplifies maintenance. You can brush off debris after cooking while the grate is still warm. The smooth surface prevents food from sticking as easily as cast iron might. Cleaning is routine. You do not need special seasonings or coatings. Wiping it down with a damp cloth or using a grill brush is sufficient. The silver finish remains intact through repeated heating cycles. This grate works well for searing steaks or roasting vegetables. It provides a consistent cooking surface without hot spots. Since it is a replacement part, you do not need to adjust your grill’s airflow settings. Just ensure the grate sits flat on the support rings. This setup allows you to resume cooking quickly. The durable construction means you can leave it in the cooker between uses if desired. It handles high heat well. The stainless steel ensures longevity. You get a reliable cooking surface for everyday meals.
Before You Buy This Grate
You should verify your cooker’s exact inner diameter before ordering. This grate is 19 inches wide and 19 inches long, which may exceed the 18-inch nominal size of some large kamado cookers. Check your Big Green Egg Large or Kamado Joe Classic III dimensions carefully. You will need standard grill tools for cleaning, as the stainless steel surface requires regular wiping to maintain its finish. This part fits alongside other outdoor cooking essentials like heat deflectors or pizza stones. It is not a standalone cooker but a critical component for even heat distribution. Ensure your current setup supports this width. If your grill is smaller, this item will not fit. Consider pairing it with a reliable thermometer to monitor cooking temperatures accurately. This grate serves as a durable upgrade for existing large ceramic grills. It complements other accessories by providing a stable, rust-resistant surface. You do not need special maintenance beyond standard stainless care. It is a practical replacement for worn-out original grates in compatible large-format cookers.
